Hilton just refreshed several of its American Express Hilton credit card offers, and this time, multiple cards are including a Free Night Reward as part of the welcome bonus.

If you’re newer to points and miles, here’s a few things to know about Hilton:

Most of us do not get excited about Hilton points rates.
But we do excited about Hilton free night certificates.

Why? Because Hilton’s certificates are uncapped.

That means you can use them at properties that might cost $800–$2,000+ per night during peak season, including school breaks when families travel and award availability can be the most difficult.

I know some of you are just looking for links, so let’s get that out of the way first. Here’s your shortcut:

Hilton Honors American Express Card

The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card

Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card

Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card

Many families have more than one of these cards to earn multiple uncapped free nights.

But let’s get into the details, and keep it simple.

Why Hilton Free Night Certificates Matter

Hilton does not use a fixed award chart, which means prices fluctuate.

Sometimes that makes their point pricing feel high.

Free night certificates work differently than the award chart. They can be used at almost any standard room property in the Hilton portfolio (with very few exclusions), and they are not limited to a specific point “category.”

For families, that flexibility can be powerful.

Especially when:

  • You travel during peak seasons
  • You want to offset one very expensive night
  • You’re building a longer stay using points + certificates

But, they do expire one year from the date of issue.

Now let’s look at the updated offers in a beginner-friendly way.

The New Hilton Card Offers (Simplified)

Instead of listing every benefit, I’m going to focus on what most families care about:

  • Annual fee
  • Welcome bonus
  • Free night potential
  • Who it’s best for

Hilton Honors American Express Card (No Annual Fee)

Welcome Offer:
Earn 70,000 Bonus Points plus a Free Night Reward after you spend $2,000 in purchases in the first 6 months. Offer ends 4/15/2026.

Why this is interesting:

  • No annual fee
  • Lower spending requirement
  • Includes a free night certificate

If you’re brand new to Hilton and want a low-commitment way to test it out, this is the easiest entry point.

You’re essentially earning a very valuable free night without committing to a long-term annual fee.

Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card ($150 Annual Fee)

Welcome Offer:
Earn 130,000 Bonus Points plus a Free Night Reward after you spend $3,000 in purchases in the first 6 months. Offer ends 4/15/2026.

If you’re a little more comfortable with points and miles, this one can be a sweet spot.

Why:

  • $150 annual fee
  • Complimentary Hilton Gold status (which can mean free breakfast at many properties)
  • Up to $200 per year in Hilton statement credits ($50 per quarter)
  • Ability to earn an additional free night after $15,000 in spending in a calendar year

If you stay at Hilton even once or twice per year, Gold status can easily save your family money on breakfast alone, and the elevated welcome offer will likely get you more than just one night.

Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card ($550 Annual Fee)

Welcome Offer:
Earn 175,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after you spend $6,000 in the first 6 months. Offer ends 4/15/2026.

This is Hilton’s premium card, and arguably the best hotel card that exists.

It includes:

  • An Annual Free Night Reward every year upon renewal. You’ll get your first one when you sign up, so even though its not listed as included above, it technically is.
  • Hilton Diamond status: the only card that gets you the TOP status just by holding it.
  • Up to $400 in Hilton resort credits.
  • Up to $200 in flight credits.
  • Opportunity to earn additional free nights through high spend.

This is not a beginner card, mostly because of the $550 annual fee.

But for families who already use Hilton resorts regularly, it can become part of a long-term strategy.

The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card ($195 Annual Fee)

Welcome Offer:
Earn 175,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points plus a Free Night Reward after you spend $8,000 in purchases in the first six months. Offer ends 4/15/2026.

This one is for business owners, including side hustles.

It:

  • Includes Hilton statement credits
  • Can be stacked with personal Hilton cards
  • Offers a free night in the welcome bonus
  • Does not automatically include an annual free night

For families building points strategically, or paying attention to your 5/24, this can make the most sense.

Where I’d Choose to Use a Hilton Free Night Certificate (Family-Friendly Picks)

When I say these certificates are powerful, this is what I mean.

They aren’t limited to airport hotels.

They can unlock resorts most families assume are out of reach.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

We’ve stayed here as a family, and it really was pretty amazing.

  • Nine pools
  • Water slides
  • Lazy river
  • Beach access

Cash rates during school breaks can easily push into four figures, and that’s before resort fees.

Using a certificate here meaningfully changes the cost of a Maui trip.

This is a great domestic option:

  • Large pool complex
  • Beach access
  • Bigger rooms
  • Easy U.S. travel

Luxury feel but still family-friendly.

Beach villas can work well for families, and the lagoon is calm and swimmable.

This is where uncapped certificates become incredibly valuable because both cash rates and point prices can be very high.

  • Smaller
  • Calm
  • Beautiful beachfront setting

If your family prefers boutique over mega-resort energy, this is a strong certificate redemption.

  • Large rooms
  • Indoor pool
  • Walkable city location

For families planning Japan, this is one of the stronger Hilton redemptions.

Should Beginners Apply?

Here’s my honest take:

Hilton points alone are not always the strongest value in the hotel world.

But Hilton free night certificates?
Those are powerful.

If you:

  • Travel during peak seasons
  • Want access to higher-end properties
  • Can comfortably meet the spending requirement

Then, these new offers are worth considering.

If you’re brand new to this hobby, or just don’t love annual fees, the no-annual-fee option is the clear winner here.

As always, only apply for cards if you:

  • Pay your balances in full
  • Are comfortable managing credit responsibly
  • Have a clear plan to use the benefit

That’s how you make this sustainable.

Bottom Line

These updated Hilton offers give beginners an opportunity to earn a high-value hotel free night certificate without being capped at mid-tier properties.

The flashy point numbers aren’t the story here.

The story is the flexibility of those free night certificates, especially for families traveling during peak seasons.
