With family-friendly properties, incredible point value, and perks that make travel easier, Hyatt consistently ranks as a top choice for families looking to book hotel stays with points.

Whether you’re new to Hyatt or refining your strategy, this guide covers everything—from earning points and booking stays to unlocking hidden perks that make a big difference for families.

Why Moms Love Hyatt

Family-friendly properties – Many Hyatt hotels offer suites, free breakfast, and resort-style pools that make family stays more enjoyable.

Exceptional value for points – Hyatt still uses an award chart, unlike Marriott and Hilton, which have moved to fully dynamic pricing. This means you can plan ahead with predictable pricing instead of dealing with fluctuating redemption rates.

Low annual fee credit card options – The Hyatt personal credit card comes with a free night every year, making it a no-brainer for families who travel even once a year.

Top-tier loyalty program – Hyatt consistently ranks as one of the best hotel loyalty programs, offering high-value redemptions and elite perks that make a real difference for family travel.

Easy elite status perks – Even mid-tier status includes free parking on award stays and room upgrades, making Hyatt a practical choice for road trips and weekend getaways.

How to Earn Hyatt Points

1. Transfer Points from Travel Rewards Credit Cards

One of the fastest ways to build Hyatt points is transferring them from travel rewards credit cards that allow 1:1 transfers. This method lets you earn points faster than relying on Hyatt stays alone.

Not sure which credit card to start with? Here’s my list of favorite travel credit cards that help you earn Hyatt points quickly.

I also break down why earning transferable points is the smartest strategy here: Why You Never Have Enough Miles—and How Transferable Points Solve That Problem.

2. Earn Points with the World of Hyatt Credit Card

Hyatt offers co-branded credit cards that allow you to earn bonus points on Hyatt stays and everyday purchases while unlocking elite benefits.

3. Book Hyatt Stays and Look for Promotions

  • Earn 5x points per dollar on Hyatt stays.

  • Check for Bonus Journeys promotions throughout the year for extra earning opportunities.

  • Link your Hyatt and American Airlines AAdvantage accounts to earn both Hyatt points and AA miles on eligible flights and hotel stays.

4. Transfer Points from Family Members

Hyatt allows points transfers between any members, but only once every 30 days. Simply fill out a Points Combining Form and email it to Hyatt. This is a great way to pool points for a bigger redemption if your spouse or kids have separate accounts.

What Is Hyatt Globalist Status & Milestone Rewards- and How Do You Earn Them?

Hyatt Globalist is the highest level of Hyatt elite status, and it can be very appealing for a lot of families. Think free breakfasts, suite upgrades, waived resort fees, waived parking fees, club access (more free food for the family) and VIP treatment. If you’re staying at Hyatt properties regularly, Globalist can take your travel experience (and savings) to the next level.

Globalist Benefits at a Glance:

  • Free breakfast for two adults & two kids at full-service Hyatt hotels

  • Waived resort fees (even on paid stays)

  • Suite upgrades (confirmed at booking with Suite Upgrade Awards)

  • Late checkout (4 PM guaranteed) at most properties

  • Guest of Honor perks – Share your Globalist benefits with friends & family when booking on points

How to Earn Globalist Status Without Staying 60 Nights:

Normally, you need 60 nights in a calendar year to qualify for Globalist. But if you don’t stay at hotels that often, here’s how you can still get there:

  • Hold the World of Hyatt Credit Card → Get 5 elite night credits every year

  • Use the World of Hyatt Business Card → Earn 5 nights per $10,000 spent

  • Book multiple rooms → If you book two rooms under your name, both count toward status

  • Stay on points or free night certificates → Any Hyatt night counts toward status, whether it’s paid or booked with points

Example: Here’s how you could reach 60 nights without constantly staying in hotels:

  • 5 nights from holding the Hyatt personal credit card

  • 20 nights from spending $40,000 on the Hyatt business card

  • 35 nights stayed at Hyatt hotels (2½ weeks if you are a large family that needs 2 rooms)

By strategically combining credit card nights, spending, and multi-room bookings, it is possible get globalist status relatively quickly.

Hyatt Milestone Rewards: Perks Before You Hit Globalist

Even if you don’t stay 60 nights to reach Globalist status, Hyatt still rewards you along the way with Milestone Rewards. These include Suite Upgrade Awards, Club Access Awards, and Free Night Awards, which can make a huge difference for family travel.

How Hyatt Milestone Rewards Work

Hyatt gives rewards at different night thresholds throughout the year. These can be bonus points, suite upgrades, club lounge access, or free nights all without needing full Globalist status.

How to Book Hyatt Stays with Points

1. Hyatt Award Chart

Hotel Category Off-Peak Standard Peak
1 3,500 5,000 6,500
2 6,500 8,000 9,500
3 9,000 12,000 15,000
4 12,000 15,000 18,000
5 17,000 20,000 23,000
6 21,000 25,000 29,000
7 25,000 30,000 35,000
8 35,000 40,000 45,000

2. All-inclusive Hyatt properties

Hyatt’s all-inclusive resorts (such as Hyatt Ziva, Hyatt Zilara, and Dreams Resorts) use a separate award chart with lettered categories (A–F) instead of the standard numbered categories used for regular Hyatt hotels.

The base award rate covers two guests per room, but if you're traveling as a family, it's important to factor in the additional point costs:

  • 3rd guest: +10,000 to 28,000 points per night, depending on the property category.

  • Children: Some properties offer discounted rates for kids staying in the same room.

Check the specific resort’s award category and extra guest pricing when booking. Here’s what those rates look like:

Category Off-Peak Standard Peak
A 15,000 17,000 20,000
B 20,000 23,000 25,000
C 25,000 29,000 32,000
D 30,000 35,000 40,000
E 35,000 40,000 45,000
F 42,000 50,000 58,000
