My Take
If you want a simple cash back card for the things your family already buys every week, this is an easy one to start with.
You earn 3% cash back at U.S. supermarkets, on U.S. online retail purchases and at U.S. gas stations (on up to $6,000 per year in purchases in each category, then 1%). Groceries and online orders add up fast with kids, so those categories do most of the work.
Your cash back comes as Reward Dollars, which you can redeem as a statement credit or at Amazon.com checkout.
One thing to know: this card earns cash back, not flexible travel points. If travel is your goal, here’s how I use American Express Membership Rewards points for our family.
