The Hyatt award chart changed on May 20, 2026, and most of the coverage has focused on what got more expensive. But there’s a handful of genuinely Hyatt family hotels on points, bookable for 15,000 points or less.
Here’s how the new pricing ranges break down for the categories in this guide:
- Category 2: 6,000–15,000 points per night
- Category 3: 8,000–20,000 points per night (under 15,000 at Lowest and Low tier dates, which can be slightly cheaper than the old off-peak rates were)
- Category 4: 12,000–25,000 points per night (above the 15k threshold at moderate and higher priced dates, but fully covered by the World of Hyatt free night certificate regardless of tier
A note before we get into our picks: the new chart is date-dependent, with five pricing tiers — Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, and Top — replacing the old three-tier Off-Peak/Standard/Peak system. Always search your actual travel dates on Hyatt’s website before transferring points. Properties marked with ⭐ moved down in category as of May 20, 2026, making them better value than they were before.

The Domestic Picks
Hyatt Centric Downtown Denver⭐

Category 3 · 8,000–20,000 points · Moved down from Category 4
This is one of the best finds in this year’s category changes. The Hyatt Centric Downtown Denver moved DOWN from Category 4 to Category 3, meaning Lowest and Low tier nights can now fall well under 15,000 points at a downtown hotel in one of the most family-friendly cities in the country. Denver is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and the Colorado Rockies baseball team. The Children’s Museum of Denver, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and the Denver Zoo round out a full family itinerary. Downtown puts you walking distance from everything.
Best for: Families who want an outdoor-focused trip, Colorado gateway, all ages
Points reality: Lowest and Low tier midweek dates can hit 8,000–12,000 points. Summer weekends push toward the top of the range.
Hyatt House San Diego/Sorrento Mesa

Category 2–3 · 6,000–20,000 points
San Diego is one of the most searched family vacation destinations in the country. This property delivers full kitchens, free breakfast, and spacious suites near Birch Aquarium, Balboa Park, Old Town, and the beach. Sorrento Mesa’s location in the corporate corridor means Lowest and Low tier dates here price toward the low end of the Category 2 range, sometimes as low as 6,000–8,000 points per night, while still putting families within easy reach of everything that makes San Diego worth visiting. Summer weekends climb, but fall and spring midweek dates are where the real value lies.
Best for: Beach-focused families, San Diego Zoo, Legoland access, longer stays
Points reality: Lowest tier midweek can hit 8,000–10,000 points. Summer weekends push to 12,000–15,000.
Hyatt House Chicago/Evanston

Category 2–3 · 6,000–20,000 points
A smart Chicago base that prices significantly more affordably than downtown properties. Full kitchens, lake access, and proximity to the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and the Chicago Children’s Museum. The lakefront makes this a genuinely strong family destination hotel. Fall and winter lowest tier dates can price toward the low end of Category 2, making a multi-night Chicago trip achievable on a single welcome bonus balance. Avoid summer weekends, which push toward the top of the range.
Best for: Chicago museum trips, lake access, multi-night stays
Points reality: Fall and winter Lowest/Low tier dates can hit 8,000–10,000 points. Summer weekends push above 15,000.
Dream Nashville

Category 4 · 12,000–25,000 points · Moved down from Category 5 · Certificate eligible
Nashville is one of the most searched family travel destinations in the US right now, and Dream Nashville just moved DOWN to Category 4, making it newly bookable with the World of Hyatt free night award. At Moderate tier pricing, which is where most dates currently land, raw points pricing for Category 4 sits above the 15,000-point threshold. So, this is where the certificate becomes the strategy. Use it on your highest-demand night and pay actual points only on surrounding lower-demand nights. For a family doing a three or four-night Nashville trip, that combination keeps total costs well within a single welcome bonus balance. Broadway, the Johnny Cash Museum, Cheekwood Botanical Garden, and some of the best family-friendly food in the South are all within easy reach.
Best for: Families with older kids and teens, music and food-focused trips, certificate redemptions
Points reality: Moderate tier nights run 15,000–20,000 points. The free night certificate covers any night regardless of tier.
Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue, Austin, TX ⭐

Category 4 · 12,000–25,000 points · Moved down from Category 5 · Certificate eligible
Austin moved down to Category 4 alongside Nashville, and the same certificate strategy applies. Congress Avenue puts families in the heart of Austin: Sixth Street, the Texas State Capitol, Barton Springs, and South Congress are all accessible. Austin’s demand is high year-round, which is exactly why the certificate play is so valuable here. Use it on your busiest night, book surrounding nights at lower tier pricing, and a multi-night Austin trip becomes very achievable. The Hyatt Centric brand delivers a lifestyle feel that’s a step above a standard Hyatt Place, which is a good match for the Austin vibe.
Best for: Families with older kids, food and music-focused trips, certificate redemptions
Points reality: Moderate tier nights run 15,000–20,000 points. The free night certificate covers any night regardless of tier.
The Barnett, New Orleans

Category 4 · 12,000–25,000 points · Moved down from Category 5 · Certificate eligible
This is the sleeper pick on the list. The Barnett is a JdV by Hyatt boutique property that moved DOWN from Category 5 to Category 4 in February 2026, making it newly certificate eligible. New Orleans is one of the most unique family travel destinations in the country: the French Quarter, Cafe Du Monde, streetcars, the Audubon Zoo, the National WWII Museum, and a food scene unlike anywhere else in America. The Barnett’s boutique character makes it more interesting than a standard Hyatt Place, and at Category 4 it’s now accessible to anyone holding a free night certificate. Same strategy as Nashville and Austin: certificate on the busiest night, points on the quieter ones.
Best for: Families with curious kids, history and food-focused trips, certificate redemptions
Points reality: Moderate tier nights run 15,000–20,000 points. The free night certificate covers any night regardless of tier.
Andaz Savannah

Category 4 · 12,000–25,000 points · Certificate eligible
Right in the heart of the historic district on Ellis Square, steps from River Street and Forsyth Park. Savannah is one of the most searched family destinations in the Southeast with historic squares, ghost tours, horse-drawn carriages, and the Tybee Island beach day trip. The Andaz Savannah is consistently cited as one of the best certificate redemptions in the region. Cash rates run $200–$500 per night, meaning a certificate here delivers exceptional value. The boutique Andaz experience feels special in a way a standard chain hotel doesn’t, which makes the family memory stick. Use the certificate on a weekend night and book surrounding nights on points for a complete Savannah trip.
Best for: History-focused families, certificate redemptions, weekend trips
Points reality: Moderate tier nights are around 15,000 points. The free night certificate covers any night regardless of tier.
The International Picks
Hyatt House San Juan, Puerto Rico

Category 3 · 8,000–20,000 points
No passport required for US families, direct flights from most major cities, beach shuttles, and quick access to Old San Juan. Puerto Rico’s shoulder season, late April through early June and September through mid-November, is where this property prices toward the Lowest and Low tiers, sometimes well under 15,000 points per night. For a first international family trip that doesn’t require a passport, this is one of the strongest value plays in the entire Hyatt portfolio. The combination of beach access, history, and food makes it a genuinely complete family destination.
Best for: First international trips, beach-focused travel
Points reality: Shoulder season Lowest/Low tier dates can hit 8,000–12,000 points. Winter holidays and spring break push toward 20,000.
Grand Hyatt Bali, Indonesia

Category 3 · 8,000–20,000 points
One of the most family-celebrated Hyatt properties in Asia, and consistently recommended as a standout international redemption. The Oceana Kids’ Club runs daily from 8am–6pm, the pool complex rivals any resort in the world, and the surrounding area offers rice terraces, temples, and cooking classes that are genuinely memorable. At Lowest and Low tier dates this property can price toward the low end of Category 3, which is remarkable for a resort that commands this level of experience. This is one of the best uses of a Hyatt welcome bonus anywhere in the program.
Best for: Bucket-list Asia family trips, resort-focused travel, kids of all ages
Points reality: Lowest/Low tier dates can hit 8,000–12,000 points. High season and Upper/Top tier nights push toward 20,000.
Hyatt House Kanazawa, Japan

Category 2 · 6,000–15,000 points
The best-kept secret on this list. Kanazawa is one of Japan’s most beautiful cities with the Kenroku-en garden, Kanazawa Castle, the historic Higashi Chaya geisha district, without the crowds of Tokyo or Kyoto. This property sits at Category 2, meaning the ceiling is 15,000 points even on the highest-demand Top tier nights, and Moderate and below dates can hit 8,000–10,000 points. Spacious suites make it comfortable for families after full days of exploring. For families already planning a Japan trip who want to go beyond the obvious destinations, adding a few nights in Kanazawa on minimal points is one of the smartest itinerary moves available right now.
Best for: Japan-focused family trips, families with culture-curious kids, off-the-beaten-path travel
Points reality: Moderate tier nights run 8,000–10,000 points. Even Top tier nights stay at or under 15,000 points, which is the category ceiling.
Three Ways to Make Every Pick on This List Go Further
Use your free night certificate on the most expensive night. For every Category 4 property on this list, the certificate covers the stay regardless of which pricing tier that night falls into. A top tier Friday night in Nashville or New Orleans that would otherwise cost 20,000–25,000 points costs zero with a certificate. Book it on your highest-demand night and pay actual points only on the surrounding nights for less points.
Trigger the 5th night free on longer stays. Book five consecutive nights in a single transaction on a standard award and your fifth night is free. At 12,000 points per night that’s 48,000 instead of 60,000. The benefit is worth more on higher-priced nights, so longer stays at Category 3 and 4 properties benefit the most.
Travel midweek whenever possible. The single most reliable way to keep costs at Lowest or Low tier under the new chart is choosing Tuesday through Thursday arrival over Friday or Saturday. The difference can easily be 4,000–8,000 points per night at the same property.
Points Well Spent
Fifteen thousand points still opens a lot of doors for families. The new chart made Hyatt a little more complicated, but it didn’t close off the destinations worth visiting. It just requires knowing which properties are in which categories, which tier your specific dates fall in, and when to use your certificate vs. your points balance.
Always confirm pricing on your actual travel dates before transferring. The new five-tier chart — Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, Top — is date-dependent in a way the old three-tier system never was. But for families who plan ahead, the value is still there.
