Every year, I look forward to the Marriott free night certificates that come with some of my Marriott cards. With a 50k certificate, the options feel even bigger than the 35k certificates, especially since you can add up to 15,000 points to stretch it into a 65k night. That little top-off opens the door to some incredible family stays.

For us, these certificates have covered everything from a weekend at Disney, to beach resorts that felt way out of reach, to “bucket list” trips like the Maldives (yes, really!). The key is knowing which properties fall in range and being ready to book when you see nights that might work.

If you’re just starting with certificates, check out my Guide to Booking Marriott Stays.

Why I Love 50k Certificates

When you’ve got kids in sports like I do, sometimes a SpringHill Suites is all you need, but when a 50k certificate comes around, it feels like permission to go bigger. Whether that means a waterpark resort in Orlando, a lazy-river resort in Arizona, or even a night in the Maldives, these certificates make family travel feel more special without spending extra.

And don’t forget, pairing free night certificates with elite perks (like free breakfast or late checkout) can make family trips so much smoother. If you’re curious about how I decide which cards to keep for these kinds of perks, I shared my thought process in Cards I Always Have in My Wallet.

Final Thoughts

For families, the 50k Marriott certificate is one of the best annual perks out there. Whether you use it for a resort stay you’ll remember forever or to save money during a busy sports weekend, these certificates are worth keeping year after year.

more about me

I’m a former travel agent and airline employee turned points and miles enthusiast, here to help families travel more—for way less. With four kids of my own, I know how hard (and pricey!) it can be to plan a trip that actually works. That’s where points come in.

We’ve used them to visit 24 countries (Hawaii’s still my favorite), and I love showing other families how to do the same. On this site, you’ll find simple guides, smart tips, and one-on-one help if you want it. Whether you're just starting or ready to dive deeper, I'm here to make it easier—and more fun.

Let’s start checking off that bucket list.

Meet Kristin.
